Pace
How many possessions or plays a team generates per game.
Pace determines how many scoring opportunities a game contains. Two teams with identical efficiency will post very different raw point totals if one plays fast and the other slow, which is why per-possession metrics are the fair comparison.
Pace also shapes variance. Faster games contain more possessions, which pulls results closer to the underlying team quality; very slow games leave more room for a single sequence to decide the outcome.
Projected pace for a specific matchup is usually a blend of both teams' tendencies rather than either one alone.
